DWIGHT AGUILAR MASIAS
6
Dwight Aguilar’s earliest memories trace back to
Huadquiña, a small town in the district of Santa Teresa, in
the Andean-amazonian province of La Convención (Cusco).
It’s located at more than 1,500 m a.s.l. Santa Teresa is
recognized for its rich agricultural activity and natural beauty,
as well as being the amazonian door to the majestic citadel of
Machupicchu.
Thanks to its temperate climate and fertile, mineral-rich soils
containing potassium and phosphorus, the area offers exceptional
conditions for coffee production. Local farmers, including the
Aguilar family, have found in this (coffee) bean an opportunity for
development and a source of pride.
Dwight grew up among coffee farms and mountains, on the land that
belonged to his father, Timoteo Aguilar, who obtained it during the
Agrarian Reform of 1969. That period marked a deep transformation
in Peru’s rural history, when the slogan “Land for
those who work it” became a reality. Since then, that phrase
has guided the daily efforts of Dwight and his family, who continue
honoring his father’s legacy with hard work, dedication, and
love for coffee.
