Lot 9.: Finca Zacatlami Rafael Castelan Gasperin
High in the misty mountains of Totutla, Veracruz, at 1,450 meters above sea level, lies Rancho Zacatlami—a place where time slows down, the grass never fades, and the air is rich with the legacy of coffee. Named from the Náhuatl word meaning “place where zacate grows,” Zacatlami is more than a farm; it is the beating heart of a family that has dedicated generations to cultivating exceptional coffee with deep respect for the land.
Over 30 years ago, Don Miguel Castelan Rivera found this hidden gem while searching for the perfect terroir—altitude, climate, and fertile volcanic soil—to grow high-quality varieties such as Caturra and Garnica. What he began as a vision for better coffee has become a multigenerational mission rooted in love for the earth and fueled by a relentless pursuit of quality.
Today, as third-generation producers, we honor that vision. We care for every detail of our process, from planting to picking, fermentation to drying, with a precise and environmentally conscious approach. Our coffees are grown without cutting corners—no shortcuts, no compromise. Just a sincere connection to nature, supported by decades of knowledge passed down through our family.
Rancho Zacatlami is a family-led and environmentally focused project. We cultivate with intention, under a canopy of biodiversity, allowing nature to guide our rhythm. Every coffee cherry we produce is a reflection of the mountain’s gifts and our meticulous craft. Our farm’s unique microclimate and elevation provide ideal conditions for complex, clean, and memorable cup profiles—qualities that are highly sought after by seasoned roasters and baristas.
Participating in Cup of Excellence is not just a chance to showcase our coffees to the world—it’s a tribute to our roots, to our relentless work, and to the sacred bond we share with our land. We don’t just grow coffee—we cultivate heritage, excellence, and sustainability in every bean.
For those who demand clarity, authenticity, and environmental stewardship in their sourcing, Rancho Zacatlami offers a coffee born of purpose and passion.
