Lot 2_: Finca Don Gustavo Rafael Tapia Alvarado
Our story begins on land that was once a cattle ranch. During the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, my family made a transformative decision: together with my father, Don Gustavo Tapia, we shifted our focus to specialty coffee. We had no idea how deeply fulfilling this journey would be; learning about post-harvest processes, refining quality standards, and cultivating exceptional varieties like Anacafé 14 and Marsellesa.
Our farm is located in the municipality of Axocuapan, Taltetela, Veracruz, in a lush, humid, forested region that offers ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. In the winter, dense fog blankets the plantation trails, creating breathtaking scenery. But when the sun rises, the leaves sparkle and the entire farm comes alive with light.
Situated at 1,520 meters above sea level, the farm benefits from a river that runs through the surrounding ranches, providing natural irrigation. The rich soil and altitude contribute to the slow, even ripening of our cherries. We harvest by hand, selectively picking only the ripest cherries at their peak sugar content.
We use a traditional 36-hour washed process, performed with meticulous cleanliness and care, ensuring a product that is both safe and full of vibrant flavor. Our farming practices are rooted in sustainability, combining organic methods with smart, balanced fertilization.
Working with specialty coffee and discovering the unique character of each variety inspired us to create our own brand—Café 14—which allows us to share the essence of our land and our values with the world. This brand represents our commitment to quality, authenticity, and constant growth as producers.
We are proud to have participated in Taza de Excelencia México for the first time, and we are deeply satisfied with the outcome. Our journey is a testament to the possibilities that arise when tradition, innovation, and passion come together.
We invite you to experience our coffee, a product born from nature, nurtured with care, and crafted with pride.
