Fila Quemada

My name is Rony José Herrera Ortez. I am a
third-generation coffee producer and the owner of Fila Quemada, a
farm nestled in the mountains of Nueva Segovia between 1,475 and
1,620 meters above sea level. I grew up watching my grandfather and
my father dedicate their lives to coffee, learning that every
harvest is much more than hard work—it is passion, patience,
and respect for the land. Since we established Fila Quemada in
2007, I understood that our dream was not to produce just any
coffee, but to create a cup capable of representing the greatness
of Nicaragua to the world.
In 2026, I decided to take a risk and experiment for the very
first time with a Natural process to participate in the Cup of
Excellence Nicaragua 2026. We selected only the ripest cherries,
monitored every temperature-controlled fermentation, and
meticulously worked every detail of the lot with an obsession for
achieving exceptional quality. That effort led us to secure 4th
place nationally, proving that behind every cup lie years of
experience, discipline, and a deep love for coffee. Every bean that
leaves Fila Quemada carries with it the privileged microclimate of
the Dipilto-Jalapa mountain range, my family’s hard work, and
the pride of producing some of the finest coffees in
Nicaragua.
When someone purchases my coffee, they are not just buying an
award-winning lot; they are supporting a real story built among
mountains, early mornings, and entire generations dedicated to
perfecting this art. My greatest satisfaction is knowing that, from
this small farm in Nueva Segovia, we can connect directly with
roasters and consumers who value quality and authenticity in every
sip. Because producing specialty coffee is not just a business for
me—it is my family’s legacy and the passion I want to
share with the world.
