Wilmer Alexi Grau Montoya (Finca El Zapote)
At 45 years old, with nearly three and a half decades in coffee farming, Wilmer Alexi Montoya inherited a profound, lifelong passion for coffee from his father. After years of cultivating traditional varieties like "indio," Catimor, and Bourbon, he made a strategic and daring leap at Finca El Zapote six years ago by harvesting the Geisha variety.
The unique signature of his coffee lies in its exquisite cup profile and his deep commitment to sustainable agriculture—using poultry manure and soil liming—ensuring an exceptional quality that shields him against the harsh difficulties of farming. His unwavering dedication has led him to compete in the Cup of Excellence for four consecutive years. The beautiful fruits of his labor shine brightly: after placing 12th in 2024, this year he climbed to the 7th position in the Honduras Exótica category with a Washed Geisha. Wilmer feels profoundly happy and blessed by God, fully aware that such achievements are hard-won, especially today amidst the constant challenge of labor shortages. His future goals are unshakeable: to maintain the pristine quality of his beans and to inspire other producers to courageously walk the path of excellence.
