Nahún Vidal Sánchez (Finca Los Sánchez)
Nahún Sánchez is a coffee producer from Cantarranas, Francisco Morazán, who spent a large part of his life working as a humble bricklayer. Though he dedicated his days to building homes for other families with immense effort and dedication, the memory of his roots always lived on in his heart. He remembered how his grandparents and mother had worked the land their entire lives, growing coffee with sacrifice and hope.
Thirteen years ago, he made a brave decision that would forever change his destiny. Armed with very little money but an enormous amount of hope, he returned to the land his family had worked for generations. Nahún wanted to prove that it was possible to do something different in his area, and that coffee could be a true catalyst for transforming lives. His very first lot was a Catuai plantation—years defined by hard work, steep challenges, but also immense satisfaction. When the results turned positive, he felt inspired to enter the Cup of Excellence. In his first participation, he reached 27th place, a powerful sign that he was finally on the right path.
Refusing to settle, he and his family pushed harder, aiming to produce high-quality coffees by betting on exotic varieties like Gesha and exploring new fermentation methods to elevate their cup profiles. Every harvest became a new opportunity to learn and grow. Throughout this transformative journey, the invaluable support of IHCAFE provided the tools needed to keep advancing. Through relentless work, they returned to quality competitions, securing 10th place and, most recently, 9th place, proving to the world that true perseverance always bears fruit.
Today, Nahún understands that these victories belong to more than just him; accessing specialty coffee markets allows him to continue cultivating excellence, generate employment in his community, and offer opportunities to other families. Simultaneously, he remains deeply committed to protecting natural resources, safeguarding the soil, water, and environment for generations to come. Nahún's story is a beautiful reminder that it doesn't matter where we come from—with hard work, discipline, family support, and unyielding passion, it is possible to achieve goals that once seemed impossible. Coffee didn't just change his life; it became the tool with which he is building a brighter future for his entire community.
