History of the El Durazno estate
The El Durazno farm is in the El Izotal hamlet, Los Planes Canton, La Palma, Municipality of
Chalatenango Norte.
It's called that because there's a peach tree on the farm, not that there are many, but it was named
that way because there is, at least, one, but that's why it was given this name.
Coffee cultivation began on the El Durazno farm in 2015, because previously there were only
medium-altitude crops, and my father wanted to improve the quality of the coffee and had been
told that high-altitude coffee had better attributes.
The farm is 4 blocks of land, of which 2 blocks are cultivated with a portion of the Pacamara
variety and another with Geisha and is located at an altitude of 1,900 meters above sea level.
Due to the microclimate, coffee is harvested from February 15th to the end of April. The cold
weather takes longer for the coffee to ripen, and it comes before the rains. Rain degrades the
coffee, so it must be harvested early. The rain begins in April, which is detrimental to us.
The farm is difficult to access, so much so that when it rains heavily, it is impossible to go up
or back from the farm, so you must wait for the rain to pass or until the next day when the
weather is more favorable, and the journey is an adventure not suitable for the inexperienced.
This is the first time I've qualified for the Cup of Excellence in the washed and honey category.
I've participated before, but this is the first time I've been selected.
I take this opportunity to offer my coffee to buyers, as it is undoubtedly a great coffee with
excellent attributes and fruity and floral flavors.
