Lot 21: Zhuang Xuan Yoifo Coffee Chuang, Chia-Chi
Located in Alishan of Chiayi County, Zhuang Xuan Yoifo Farm combines coffee cultivation with the unique cultural identity of the Aboriginal Zou Tribe. Owner Chia-Chi Chuang took over the operations from his father, one of the last remaining Zou shamans. Since the Zou practices a polytheistic religion, the job of a shaman is traditionally to serve as a liaison between man, his environment, and the supernatural powers guiding the environment. To Chuang, this idea of community and connection between an individual and his world is the impetus behind his coffee business.
