Lot 15: Plan Del Hoyo Monserrate, S.A. De C.V.
PLAN DEL HOYO FARM HISTORY
Don Francisco de Sola M. was a visionary entrepreneur, a nature
enthusiast, and an innovator in
both agriculture and livestock. In 1953, he acquired the property
known as Plan del Hoyo, located
in the Canton Buenos Aires on the slopes of the Santa Ana
Volcano, within the Apaneca-
Ilamatepec mountain range. The land originally belonged to the
Díaz Salinas family.
Plan del Hoyo encompasses approximately 90 hectares, situated on
the ancient crater of the
Santa Ana Volcano. Ideally positioned on the northern side of the
massif at an elevation of 1,850
meters above sea level, the farm benefits from natural wind
protection and optimal conditions for
the development of forests and diverse high-altitude crops.
In 2005, the land’s potential for producing specialty
coffee was recognized, leading to the planting
of select varieties such as Kenya, Anacafé 14, Geisha, and
Pacamara. This marked a new chapter
for the farm, focused on quality, innovation, and
sustainability.
Today, Plan del Hoyo employs a team of 10 permanent workers, with
seasonal labor increasing
to 50 workers during the harvest period from January to
March.
All of this is carried out in the spirit of Don Francisco de Sola
M.'s legacy of curiosity and
experimentation, on a unique volcanic terrain that is not only
naturally protected and rich in
biodiversity, but also endowed with exceptional beauty. Coffee
here is cultivated with care and
precision, making Plan del Hoyo a model for the national coffee
industry and a valuable
contribution to environmental sustainability.
“Living and working with coffee is a deeply transformative
experience—far removed from
observing it from behind a desk or a screen. The rhythm of the
seasons, the discipline of the work,
and the love poured into each crop create a profound sense of
peace and fulfillment.
And to think that the final product becomes a delight for
thousands of coffee lovers around the
world—this brings a deep sense of wonder and a realization
of how interconnected we truly are.
Being able to produce such a treasure in the natural wonder that
is Plan del Hoyo is nothing short
of a remarkable gift.”
