Lot 5: Natee Coffee Estate Natee Santiphoomsawan
Natee Coffee Estate. The coffee plantations in Pangkhon Village, Chiang Rai, Thailand, trace their roots back to an early initiative by officials from the Department of Public Relations, who introduced coffee cultivation to the village. They provided the first coffee seeds and taught local villagers how to grow coffee—marking the beginning of coffee farming in the area.
Today, I am proud to be an upstream coffee farmer in Pangkhon, representing the third generation in my family to carry on this legacy—following in the footsteps of my grandfather and father. In addition to cultivating coffee, I am also involved in processing, working to further develop and refine what has been passed down to me.
My father instilled in me a deep respect for sustainable agriculture. He taught that coffee must be grown under the natural shade of trees, ensuring a balanced coexistence between the crop and the forest. Following his guidance, we strictly avoid the use of herbicides and pesticides, prioritizing environmental health and long-term sustainability. This approach allows us, as farmers, to live harmoniously with the forest while continuing to offer high-quality, ethically produced coffee to consumers.
