Finca Las Duanas is the reflection of three generations of passion, resilience, and a deep love for coffee cultivation in the high mountains of Chalatenango.
In a remarkable demonstration of fairness and family vision, producer Enrique Mena decided to leave equal portions of the property to his children, allowing the coffee-growing tradition to continue flourishing with the same strength.
For Kriscia Yasmin Mena, receiving this land represents the greatest honor: the perfect opportunity to honor the legacy of her father and grandfather by working wholeheartedly in the field.
This family project has transformed Kriscia’s household, deeply inspiring her husband, Jorge Rivera. Together, they have embarked on a journey of continuous learning.
For the past two years, Jorge has dedicated himself to planting more trees and carefully collecting the highest-quality seeds in order to experiment, establish his own nursery, and cultivate his own coffee plants.
Although neither of them had prior experience at this level of specialization, they have compensated for their lack of practical knowledge through extensive research and unwavering dedication.
This first harvest has filled them with indescribable pride. Since this was completely new territory, they did not know what to expect, and seeing tangible results today represents a dream come true for both of them.
As husband and wife, they share the profound aspiration that this small farm may become a worthy ambassador representing their beloved El Salvador to the world.
Guided by this environment of mutual support and a strong sense of social responsibility, Kriscia’s purpose is to transform agricultural success into tangible well-being, working tirelessly to provide better living conditions and dignified treatment for all her collaborators and the families within the community.
The vision of Finca Las Duanas under Kriscia’s leadership extends far beyond the boundaries of her own farm.
Her firm commitment is to reinvest the resources generated into scientific research and the development of advanced technical knowledge regarding specialty coffee processing.
This knowledge will be openly shared with all coffee producers in the region, equipping them with the tools necessary for their farms to achieve the highest quality standards as well.
Kriscia’s ultimate goal is both clear and ambitious: to ensure that collective innovation firmly positions El Salvador as the producer of the finest coffee in the world.
