Lot 33: La Bolsa Maria Elena Vides
The Legacy of Finca La Bolsa
High in the lush mountains of La Libertad, Huehuetenango, lays
Finca La Bolsa a land where coffee is more than a crop, it's a
generational calling.
This story begins in 1958, when Dr. Jorge Vides, a renowned doctor
and visionary, founded the farm with a deep love for nature and
community. He believed in nurturing both people and the land, a
philosophy that still guides the farm today.
Since 1996, the farm has flourished under the care of his
daughter, María Elena Vides, representing the second
generation of this family legacy. Under her leadership, Finca La
Bolsa has evolved into a model of sustainable agriculture,
balancing high-quality coffee production with environmental
stewardship and social responsibility. Today, the farm is proudly
Rainforest Alliance certified, surrounded of a river and with over
13 native tree species, including chalum and pine, creating a
vibrant agroforestry system that protects biodiversity and soil
health.
Originally planted with Bourbon, the farm expanded to include
Caturra, after winning 2nd place in the Cup of Excellence in 2002,
began introducing exotic varieties such as Geisha, Moca, SL-28,
Java, Arabigo, San Ramón, and Heirloom. Each of these
varieties is carefully grown in dedicated plots ranging from 2 to
10 hectares, allowing for precise care and experimentation.
At Finca La Bolsa, excellence is intentional. Each season, the
team develops detailed processing protocols from picking to drying,
crafted to bring out the most expressive and complex profiles in
every lot. These protocols are refined over time, ensuring
consistency, innovation, and flavor clarity.
This year, that passion and precision have been recognized once
again: a special microlot from Finca La Bolsa has been selected
among the best in Guatemala, earning its place in an exclusive
international auction. It is not just a coffee; it is the result of
decades of dedication, love for the land, and a commitment to
always reach higher.
From our family to yours, we are honored to share this exceptional
coffee with the world.
