In the mountains of the Oaxacan Mixteca, where clouds daily drift through the pine and oak forests, a coffee is born that represents generations of labor, knowledge, and resilience. My name is Heladio García España, a coffee producer and technical advisor originally from Guadalupe Buenavista, Santa María Yucuhiti, Oaxaca. I come from a family that has dedicated its life to coffee cultivation for generations, and today I have the honor of representing the third generation of producers continuing this legacy.

My background as a Community Development Engineer, graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de San Miguel el Grande, has allowed me to integrate technical knowledge with the heritage passed down by my parents and grandparents. Throughout my career, I have worked in plant production, nursery management, plant nutrition, crop health, wet milling, and quality evaluation, always with the goal of elevating the potential of the coffees produced in our region.

Our plots are located in the La Yuca and Punta del Cerro sites, in the area known as El Mirador, between 1,900 and 2,100 meters above sea level. These privileged elevations, combined with a cool climate, constant mist, mountain soils, and exceptional biodiversity, create ideal conditions for developing coffees of extraordinary complexity and elegance.

The coffee trees grow under the canopy of native forests dominated by pines, oaks, and other species that provide natural shade and ecological balance. The slow ripening of the cherries, favored by the altitude and low temperatures, allows for the development of sensory profiles with great aromatic intensity, bright acidity, and a remarkable expression of Yucuhiti's terroir.

Our commitment to excellence has yielded results that transcend our own plots. As part of the Yucuhiti Specialty Coffee Producers Group, in 2025 we achieved 6th place nationally in the Experimental Coffees category of Cup of Excellence Mexico, proving that our region possesses the capacity to produce innovative, world-class differentiated coffees. That same year, among more than 650 participating producers, we won first place at the Oaxacan Coffee Convention, consolidating Yucuhiti as one of Mexico's most promising emerging origins.

These achievements are the result of a long-term vision based on research, innovation, and continuous improvement. To this end, we have established a variety garden featuring 18 coffee varietals, where we evaluate materials from different origins to identify those with the highest potential for quality, climate adaptation, and resilience. This space represents a living platform for genetic conservation and experimentation that seeks to strengthen the future of coffee farming in the Oaxacan Mixteca.

We currently work with varieties such as Geisha, Java, Typica, Bourbon, and Yellow Caturra, among others. Each one contributes unique characteristics that enrich our understanding of coffee and allow us to explore new sensory expressions capable of standing out in the most demanding markets in the world.

The production of this lot begins with a rigorous manual selection of cherries at their optimal point of ripeness. Subsequently, each stage of the process is carefully supervised to preserve the quality and potential of the coffee. Sorting, controlled fermentation, and slow drying are carried out under strict technical criteria, guaranteeing that the bean keeps the identity of its origin intact and fully expresses the exceptional conditions of the mountain where it was grown.

During the harvest, the estate transforms into a space for family and community collaboration. Family members, collaborators, and regional producers actively participate in picking and sorting the cherries, sharing knowledge, experiences, and a profound passion for coffee. Each lot is the result of a collective effort that reflects the values of work, respect, and commitment that characterize our community.

This coffee is unique because it represents much more than a combination of altitude, climate, and exceptional genetics. It is the reflection of an indigenous community that has found in specialty coffee a tool to build opportunities, preserve its identity, and project its territory to the world. Each bean carries within it the history of our families, the cultural richness of the Mixteca, and the extraordinary potential of a region that continues to surprise with the quality of its coffees.

The recognition achieved in the Cup of Excellence holds a profound meaning for me, for my family, and for our entire community. More than an award, it represents the validation of years of effort, learning, and perseverance. It proves that it is possible to produce coffees capable of competing among the best in the world from the mountains of Yucuhiti, opening new opportunities for future generations of producers.

Participating in this international auction is an opportunity to share with the world not only an exceptional coffee, but also a story of origin, innovation, and social commitment. Every cup represents the dedication of a community that works daily to raise quality, protect its environment, and build a more prosperous future for the coffee-producing families of Oaxaca.

Our goal is not solely to produce extraordinary coffee. Our mission is to prove that the mountains of Yucuhiti can become an international benchmark for quality, innovation, and sustainability, bringing the voice, culture, and effort of our people to the tables of the most demanding consumers in the world.
