In the mountains of La Naranja, in San Rafael del Norte,
René Antonio Meza Ortiz has shaped his life story amidst
coffee plantations, mist, and family effort. He began working the
land at the age of 20, inspired by his parents, who cultivated a
small plot that sustained the family. Through sacrifice and
perseverance, he managed to acquire his first manzana of coffee in
2005, sparking a dream that has now transformed into 20 manzanas
dedicated to specialty coffee production. For him, coffee is not
just a crop: it is heritage, identity, and the legacy he wishes to
pass on to his children.
His Pacamara micro-lot, grown at 1,252 meters above sea level on
the "La Laguna" plot of Finca El Deseo, represents the culmination
of years of learning and dedication. Processed using the natural
method with carefully controlled fermentation, this coffee stands
out for its intense fruit expression, pronounced sweetness, creamy
body, and an elegant, wine-like profile. Every stage—from the
manual harvesting of ripe cherries to a 19-day tunnel-drying
process—reflects René's commitment to quality,
traceability, and respect for nature. His Fairtrade certified
production also demonstrates a sustainable and responsible vision
for his community and the environment.
Participating for the first time in the Cup of Excellence 2026
represents much more than a competition for René: it is an
opportunity to showcase to the world the potential of Nicaraguan
coffee and the hard work of organized farming families. Supported
by the Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples Sacaclí,
R.L., this micro-lot expresses the authenticity of its origin and
the meticulous care behind every bean. René describes his
coffee as: "Specialty coffee, a product crafted with effort and
dedication." His coffee is an invitation to discover a cup born in
the mountains of Jinotega, crafted with discipline, passion, and
the pride of representing Nicaragua in international specialty
coffee markets.
